Philip Vasan is Deputy Head of Blackrock’s Portfolio Management Group and Global Head of Lending and Liquidity. Mr. Vasan joined Blackrock in 2016 and is also a member of the firm’s Global Operating Committee. Mr. Vasan was promoted to Deputy Head of BlackRock’s Portfolio Management Group in 2020, which manages $3.6 trillion in client assets. His responsibilities include Global Lending, Liquidity, Prime Brokerage, Financing and Balance Sheet, the Private Investors business, and joint responsibility for Global Capital Markets
Prior to BlackRock, Mr. Vasan was with Credit Suisse in global leadership positions, serving on the Management Committees of both the Private Bank and Investment Bank. Most recently, he was the CEO of the Private Bank for Credit Suisse in the Americas, with clients across North America and Latin America. Prior to that Mr. Vasan developed and led Credit Suisse’s Prime Services franchise, serving hedge funds and institutional investors. Mr. Vasan was also worldwide Head of Equity Derivatives and Convertibles, Program Trading and Proprietary Arbitrage Trading, and prior to that Head of Global Foreign Exchange. He additionally directed Credit Suisse’s e-Commerce investments and managed its cost reduction program.
Mr. Vasan received his B.A. with High Honors from Oberlin College, and his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, where he was named top graduate instructor in the University. He has served as a visiting lecturer in Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Mr. Vasan is a member of the Investment Committee for the Oberlin College Endowment, and is a former Director of the Managed Funds Association. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the East Harlem School in New York City.
